Treasure Hunting and the Economy

There are significant reasons why professional treasure hunters have so few peers. Most people have no inkling of what is involved in such activity. Most don’t know how to go about researching caches, or are even willing to undertake the work sometimes difficult involved. More importantly, few are capable of engaging in the challenge of extended expeditions, poisonous snakes, dangerous mine shafts and caves, getting shot at, and dozens of other hazards.

Imagine my surprise, then, when I was informed that, as the economy began to sour in 2008, the sales of my books on lost mines and buried treasures spiked. As it turns out, more and more people are undertaking searches for lost treasure caches and mines in hopes of an alternative income. Since my books on the subject are widely available and well known, they have become a common first-resource for many. Imagine my further surprise when I learn from time to time that someone has been successful in locating a lost treasure I have researched and written about. Some have even located caches that have eluded me over the years.

Furthermore, I am receiving emails and calls on the order of twice a week from people requesting information on some lost treasure or another. Some come right out and ask me where the treasure is located so they can retrieve it! Others want me to consult with them relative to conducting research and organizing expeditions. I have recently received offers to assist with treasure recovery in Florida, Oklahoma, several locations in Texas, and South America. My book, Buried Treasures of Texas , has helped at least three people locate lost caches in recent years.

Hopefully, the economy will recover soon, but until then, many are taking matters into their own hands and having success.
